Along with islands being used for childrens charities, the American Cancer Society has joined the ranks of doing good in Second Life. According to their website

The Society is expanding its role in the community by establishing a virtual space on our own Island. This virtual office will serve a number of purposes including an interactive cancer information resource center, a venue for peer support groups, as well as a headquarters for in-world event planning.

In the next few weeks you will be able to make donations through SL ATM’s. Though the 2006 Second Life Relay For Life event does not have a date just yet, you can even participate by doing a virtual walk within Second Life, and watch a live webcast. You can also raise funds along the route of the relay for proceeds going toward the generous organization.

You can get contact information from their site if you wish to volunteer or donate. In world you can contact ‘RC Mars’ or ‘Jade Lily’. Please pass the word, and lets help to make this a successful event!

*Update 3/24/06*

I have got in contact with the organization and will be displaying information and advertisements for the event in my VGI Casino in MUD. I will also be holding a fund raising day/hour/night (TBD) before July for the event. In which all proceeds will be given to the Cancer Society via SecondLife.
