I debated using the headline Find Your Sim Neighbor, because that’s not completely accurate.

I thought this service by the title would be something that would tell you who owned the adjacent properties in the same and adjoining Sims, but what this actually seems to do is tell you how many sims are loaded onto the same server. From 1-4 and what type of server you are using. It seems to be the scripting response to a problem complained about in the forums according to this thread (registration required).

It would be cool if Linden Labs would provide that information via an API (do they and we just don’t know about it?) so some social interaction could apply. Heck, imagine an eBay feedback style of rating for neighbors which could only be rated on by neighbors after X amount of time? This way neighbors could rate each other and other SL residents could figure out neighborhood appraised value based on a rating factor.

I realize there was a rating system in place that didn’t work so good, but I think if a rating system was tied into actual neighboring land ownership and not just anybody that can get an account might be helpful data to aggregate and share to prospective real estate buyers. I realize for folks that are first time land owners they wouldn’t have a rating, but they could develop one after X amount of time.

Would this be the equivalent of virtual red lining? Is it possible that once somebody got a good rating they could turn into a bad virtual neighbor? Perhaps after a certain amount of land prim changes the ratings could be reset so that the original rater could re-rate.

I’m not sure this is a viable solution, it’s just me thinking aloud of the problem neighbor situation that seems to bring out passion in the forums and in world. Your thoughts?
