Thanks to a tip by friend Jeffronius Batra, I just joined a local meetup here in Seattle for Second Life [see http://secondlife.meetup.com/8/]. No official SL location defined as of yet.

The first group meeting will be on Monday, August 7, 2006 with a location to be named later. This will be the first real life meeting I’ve gone to specifically involved with Second Life. The inaugural meeting agenda is described as:

Join us for the first “founders” meeting of Second Life in Seattle. We’ll discuss what will make the group fun, frequency and location of meetings, RL/SL events, the upcoming Second Life Community Convention, and try to answer any questions and trade tips/tricks.

A few things I’m curious about with this group: will the meeting also be held virtually (that seems like an obvious answer, but it doesn’t appear to be answered yet) so those who can’t make it physically (RL) can still attend? Seattle traffic sucks during rush hours, hopefully the founders will keep this in mind. Some things I’d like to see come out of the meeting:

  • Invite other interested group members to join the VTOR blog and/or submit interesting SL tips along the way
  • discuss different ways to promote goods/services in both SL / RL. I currently have two products for sale in SL and will be releasing a third product soon

A list of complete Second Life Meetups, including the Second Life in Seattle group, is available at secondlife.meetup.com.
