The rest of the group seems more advanced in their skill of altering their avatar appearance and with tonight having my first DJ gig inside SL for a birthday party, I needed to learn more about how to change my avatar. Before changing the avatar though, I wanted to save my existing appearance so I could change back.

STEP 1. Right click on your avatar in SL and choose “appearance”  This will open up the appearance avatar window.
STEP 2. Create a new folder inside your Inventory under “Clothing.” I named mine “TD Goodliffe 03042006″. This way I figured if/when I change to a new look, I can use the date to return to previous appearances.
STEP 3. Go through each of the body parts: shape, skin, hair and eyes and save into your new created folder in step 2. For my names I chose “TD Goodliffe orig NAME” where name was shape, skin, hair or eyes.
STEP 4. Save each of the clothes to your new folder just as you did with body parts in step 3. If your avatar doesn’t wear some of the items, don’t worry about saving. For example, my avatar didn’t have socks, jacket, skirt or gloves.
STEP 5. If you are wearing anything else drag that from the inventory to your new folder. I was wearing a turquoise belt buckle, so I dragged that over. Other items might be hats, jewelery, etc.
STEP 6. You’re all set. Whenever you change to another avatar, you can now easily change back by dragging the folder onto your avatar.
