I happened to discover this link about MYST in SL which came from following JohnnyRS’s post about mainstream music in SL (thanks JohnnyRS!).

If you haven’t played MYST before, I think your missing out. I wasn’t very good at the game. They came out with an entire series of the game. I only made it half way through the second one. I can remember many late nights, falling asleep at the PC & playstation while trying to figure out some of the puzzles. It comes in both a PC format, and playstation format. Some of the older versions have limited formats. But I beliive the newer versions can be played on Mac and PC format. You can view them all here. I would recommend starting with the first version. The puzzles are a bit easier, and you can get a feel for how the game works.

MYST and the other versions of it are mostly about an estranged family that have gone traveling, or plain disappeared, in abstract worlds that have been created by their father.

(Strange markings on a wall, hmmm…)

Just about everything is a puzzle or a clue. Many of the puzzles are abstract. You may come across some symbols on a wall in one area of the world, and come to realize that they are a clue to unlocking a secret in another part of the world. Another example would be some obscure structure in the middle of nowhere that seems to have no purpose. But inside it can be clues, mini puzzles, or even the layout of the structure may be a clue in that it could be facing a particular direction. Often times you just never know.

(A clue! What could this be for?)

The old versions didnt have camera controls like there is in SL. I took a visit to Teladore Isle. It looks like a great beginning to the MYST series. I managed to get stuck in a cave because I couldn’t figure out the puzzle to open the door I came through. With SL’s camera I was able to look at the other side of the door and open it from the outside ;P

(A train, but no tunnel. Or is there one? hmm…)

Teladore Isle also offers a treasure hunt game within the world. It intails treasure boxes and clues. Some of the clues actually lead to other SL members land parcels. That option does have rules so that the boxes ARE findable. The hunt does offer a grand prize!
