As mentioned last week, SL Boutique was getting a version 2.0 upgrade. Among the changes are a backend search overhaul, the purple color giving way to a more subdued Electric Sheepishly white that’s softer on the eyes but less original.

The left hand menu (pictured) is the subject of some criticism — surprise, surprise — in the forum thread (registration required) where it was announced by FlipperPA Peregrine.

I agree with the residents who miss the categories. Fine, give in to the Web 2.0-ish urges and call them tags, but at least give shoppers the ability to view them in logical groups and categories rather than in the What’s Hot/Popular arrangement. Who the most popular vendors are seems more ego stroking that useful.

The SLBoutique team might want to take a look at eBay or Amazon for some inspiration as to what to model for a v3.0 of their online store. The collapsable menus don’t work for me in an online store. Sorry, I must admit I liked version 1.0 better, even with Peregrine’s 20 minute hack search. Maybe it will grow on me.

I briefly looked over the seller side of things, as I only have one product listed there, not much seemed to have changed except for tags.
