Wow, an interesting thing happened tonight. I was offered L$65,000 for the land where my TD Scripts store is at inside Second Life. That’s a little over $200 USD at current exchange rates. I politely turned down the offer. The response? The person would be willing to pay as much as L$70,000. Here is the public chat log, this was not a private chat:

[18:50]  You: L$65,000?
[18:50]  D.H (avatar name withheld): Yep Lindens
[18:50]  D.H: Or I could pay u exact USD
[18:51]  D.H: via paypal
[18:51]  You: I drive people here through my scripts
[18:51]  D.H: :-)
[18:51]  D.H: Well u let me know
[18:51]  You: ok, mon :)
[18:51]  D.H: I might do 70 KL

Let me say it again: wow.

I wondered, but didn’t ask, what could be so valuable about my stretch of land? It’s valuable to me because I’ve been generating script sales and including notecards with links to this land. Those links would lead to the new owner’s land if I were to sell. There’s no virtual equivalent of a 301 redirect inside Second Life.

And then the more I thought about it, this was land I paid much, much less for. This was a great offer. I changed my mind and contacted the interested buyer. I notified him that I sent the price on the land to L$71,000. He could buy it any time he wanted, but if somebody else came by first … well, nothing I could do about that.

Today he said he would buy the land. Hmm, my first pending Real Estate deal in SL? Will it close?

[...] That’s all there is to reducing land holdings. You could also abandon the property if you don’t want to sell it, but that doesn’t make any sense. The two 512m plots I sold were in the middle of a sim. If/when I ever decide to sell my business plot it will be much more expensive. I once had an offer of L$70,000 but the buyer who offered me that price didn’t deliver. My business land is not for sale currently, but I’m willing to listen to serious six plus digit offers in Linden. In fact, I’d seriously consider cashing out of my current business in world for a million plus Lindens (that’s $3,400+ USD at current exchange rates), which would include my shop, land and active products for sale (my dice cube games) with the only requirement being that name “TD” must be changed. Again, I’m not looking to sell my virtual business, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t entertain serious offers. [...]
