The message residents receive when trying to login to the Second Life grid:

Now here is the first official Linden Labs blog explanation via Grid is Down:

[01:56am PST] Alright everyone - we are still in the midst of cleaning up. Unfortunately this may take a few hours. Our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

Grid still down:

Second Life is still down while we work with our storage hardware vendor. No estimated opening time yet, but it could be many hours

SL Grid Closed To Logins:

Hi folks, discussions with our hardware vendors continue, and we’ll keep you updated as often as possible.

Is it just me or are these three posts essentially saying nothing? Since comments and trackbacks are turned off on the official blog, residents can’t ask for any real details why they are paying for this. As a hosting company Linden Labs remains one of the worst ever for downtime. It’s time to start documenting all these occurences. I’ve created a “downtime” category, fellow VTOR authors, for all MMO downtime. It’s one thing for scheduled maintenance, it’s another for hardware failure.

Scaling? Meh.
