Was going through the VTOR archives this morning and noticed and deleted (manually, ouch) a ton of trackback spam. Still am deleting it in fact. Since there is no way (?) to add our own code or plugins to filter the spam, I disabled trackback by default and encourage VTOR authors to turn that off on each of their posts have removed trackbacks from showing in the template. Hopefully the Blogcharm admins will see this problem and offer some sort of spam filtering. Currently we can’t even easily view the most recent trackbacks or hold in moderation, it’s a pretty lousy system of dealing with spam.

It’s a shame that this has to be ruined by spammers, because I like receiving legitimate trackbacks, but no way am I going to cruise through the archives every day looking for trackback spam to delete.

Update 7:47am PST: it occured to me that just deleting trackbacks from the template would be a better solution than trying to turn off trackbacks on each post or manually remove the spam, so that’s what I’ve done. Screw you, trackback spammers. Now I’m working on why this blog isn’t listed in Technorati and other places. This support forum thread offers some helpful information.
