Ahh, the very first blog entry of VTOR – Virtual TO Reality. These are some of my most favorite because it is a chance to say what’s planned for all this glorious white space. It’s probably going to take us a few posts to get the total purpose of this blog fleshed out, but the basic concept is as follows:

What will VTOR mean to you?
VTOR will be useful to those who already have a business web presence of some kind whether it be storefront, classified ads, pro blogger, corporate presence site, etc. or even a personal site that they’d like to also expand into the virtual landscape of Second Life or other Massive Multiplayer Online games.

We will discuss business ideas in the world of Second Life primarily but elsewhere from time to time as well. Because the Linden dollar ($L) can be converted into real world dollars, it opens up for many real world business possibilities.

For example, let’s say you are an author and do some self-publishing. At VTOR we might discuss and explore ways you could possibly leverage the promotion and sale of your books inside Second Life or other other MMO worlds. You might even sell your book for $L at a discount, say if people signed up under you or something (you receive $1,000L for each confirmed referral).

Please note that I’ve been very careful thus far not to use the word “game” to describe these virtual worlds. Although people can and do play games inside Second Life and in fact that might be one type of business you setup — building and selling games to other SL citizens — at VTOR we will focus primarily on the business relationship, promotion and development.

In other words: how do you develop a business presence inside these worlds?

If you are a BlogCharm member and would like to join our VTOR team and post this type of this content here, then please get with me for the hookup. My SL name is TD Goodliffe (pictured above I believe), so you can reach me there in world. I’m new, like most others here, at BlogCharm so still am exploring the messaging system among other things.

Update Frequency
As for frequency of updates, I would expect at least once per week updates of this blog, save for holidays or vacation, but it would be nice to get 3-5 updates per week going among our time.

In addition to our multiple businesses and many web properties, I currently author 20+ blogs so my time is fairly limited as one would imagine, but I’ve been wanting to start a blog like this for the last few weeks since really getting into SL and seeing the wide range of possibilities for expanding and crosspromoting our web businesses inside a virtual world. I could have just added a category to one of our other blogs, but I felt like this blog has the potential to have enough content to sustain a more regular schedule of posting and thus deserved its own presence.

Via separate post here or elsewhere, I will explain in greater detail my reasons for choosing a free hosted gig at blogcharm vs. doing this on one of our own dedicated servers or elsewhere, but in general, I wanted to try out this service and what better way than to use a real blog rather than just some demo blog.

Happy VTOR’ing to you!
