Will Second Life turn into the bad side of town?
Tateru Nino breaks down the Second Life signup numbers since the database was hacked. I’m not sure whether to be surprised or not that more people have joined with a record number of signups on 9/11.
This got me thinking what if the landscape of residents with good intentions versus the number with bad intentions increases too greatly? Certainly now that no credit card or cell phone is required, we can see all sorts of riff raff entering the world, including people under 18. Will we end up with a virtual bad side of the town? Owning land with a business will be a much darker experience when every griefer in world start attacking. It would be like all of a sudden your business was put on the bad side of town. I didn’t become a part of Second Life to be a cop of my business.
You expect some level of griefing activity and problems running a real — and virtual — business, but I wonder if things will keep getting worse, especially considering hackers must think SL is a paradise of some sorts.
