Wired is running an article that made me think about how one day we might be able to cross avatars between metaverses:

Because the current metaverse evolved largely out of videogames, it makes sense that it should be composed of fiefdoms - after all, you wouldn’t expect a Grand Theft Auto crack dealer to drop in for a barbecue with the Sims. But there is reason to believe that the divided metaverse is merely a transitional phase, and that its component worlds will coalesce.

That would be cool if I could take my level 14 ogre in Everquest (which hasn’t been played in many months) over to see the Script School chalet. I’m not sure what my ogre would do, but he’d be cool to look at anyway, all decked out in armor.

The problem is interoperability of platforms. These things are all running on server platforms that are on non contiguous network sites and part of the overhead of an MMO is that they have to pay for this network and its upkeep so they plan that into their expenses and business as an intrinsic. It also helps keep their code secure.

So the short answer is. NO.
