Ning.com allows non-programmers the ability to quickly create a wide variety of online services. Programmers can tweak the PHP-powered apps. Will admit when I first saw the service I didn’t think it would last very long, but they’ve managed to stay alive by marketing themselves as a quick and dirty way to setup your own social network. Occasionally I see a Ning cloned app that makes me smile.

War of the Worlds battle on Ning

For example, in War of the Worlds, don’t think H.G Wells, but instead hot or not meets the MMO / virtual world space. Vote for the virtual worlds you like best. It’s a fun break time distraction. You can cycle through the list of less than 100 worlds in a short amount of time. No cookies or anything, but it might expose you to a few MMOs you weren’t familiar with, which is the underlying payoff.
