One Man’s Opinion

Al Hofmann performed at Bliss Garden Center using computer devices and Midi systems playing midi guitar and multi-layering different instruments into a recording device and played back as accumulated musical phrases in a loop device.

I am not a good judge of the “electronic” sounds, but his performance sounded to me like a recorded event of electronic instruments playing a modern jazzy style… maybe a bit of fusion thrown in. Personally I would prefer a single live instrument played along with a recorded track, rather than the “electronic” sound of a full band… especially one that sounds recorded anyway.

Some of you may really like it… I didn’t!

  1. 1 Al Hofmann Listener:

I have attended many of Al’s shows.

And whilst I understand what you mean, I disagree.

When Al plays some of his faster or jazzier pieces they can be very entertaining.

And when you consider that all his music is coming from one guy with a guitar and a PC it is quite amazing and an interesting difference from the usual singer with a guitar that permeates the sl scene. Not to put the guitar players down tho as some are truely amazing, but sometimes a different vibe is welcome.

But it may not be everyones thing I suppose.
