Amsterdam sells on eBay
Amsterdam sim was sold yesterday for $50,000 USD.
From the description:
This is the sim built by Stroker Serpentine. It has appeared in numerous publications, websites and media events. Amsterdam remains one of Second Life’s most notable builds. Custom photo-stock textures were used to create an immersive ambience that retained this build in the “Popular Places” listing for months on end
Parts of the build are great. But the ambience? Really? I thought it was the sex shops and prostitutes that kept it in the popular places list.

I thought it had a very nice ambiance, one of the first sims to really try and replicate the look and feel of an actual city using photorealistic textures and other local flavor. The real Amsterdam is one of my favorite cities in the world, and when I would miss it I would teleport over to the SL Amsterdam and get a nice reminiscent feeling.
It will be missed by me, if it changes its look substantially.

I wasn’t saying that Amsterdam had no ambience, but WAS doubting that was what kept it in the popular places list, Rik. There are lots of lovely places with low traffic which never get anywhere near the popular places list.
I’d have thought sex kept it popular, and the name was what sold it.

It was bought by a Dutch real estate company, owner of various trendy clubs and restaurants. Within 2 weeks they will announce their plans with Virtual Amsterdam.
