An Eventful list of what’s happening in Second Life

The website Eventful maintains a list of Second Life events which can be subscribed to via RSS or visited via the web. You’ll want to filter the list down as the day this was written there was 1,522 events. Eventful results can be refined by date (but not time?), alphabetically and in categories like: Books, Technology, Learning & Education.
I refined the search for Learning & Education for today and saw there were 55 events. Unlike the built-in SL events search (pictured below) Eventful displayed events that had already passed meaning by midday you have to scroll past the first few pages to get the events that are happening now. If this can’t be changed, it’s a major oversight in the design.

I played around with the query “when” field attempting to get events in Second Life sorted after a certain time and didn’t figure it out. You’d think there would be a time range option in at least an advanced search menu? The FAQ was no help. Also the Eventful search was pretty sluggish returning results taking several seconds. Guess I’ve been spoiled by speedy Google results.

We added a “when” parameter specifically to address this: “right now”. It shows events starting from the current hour, instead of starting at midnight today.

That’s the kind of query they on the official Linden blog (the “Educational Events” sidebar), so hopefully it’ll help you as well.

Great mashup. Reminds me of the Lotro/Google Maps mashup. I imagine we’ll be seeing many more of these in the near future.
