The Acoustic Alchemy shop isn’t the best designed or built in SL, but it must be one of the best organised.  Here is proof that Hastur Pierterson has really thought hard about what clients might want, and how they might search for it.

The sound clips are beautifully organised by type, and both the vendors and the stands are labelled appropriately and helpfully.  The clips can be heard before buying, and because they are so well organised, you don’t have to scroll through 30 irrelevant clips in order to get to the ones you want. There are crowd sounds, natural sounds, industrial sounds and an interesting Darkness category too.

Acoustic alchemy has a lively support group, and both the shop and group are responsive to people who take an interest in sounds in SL.  They are actively campaigning for people who use sound clips in SL. I’ve found the customer service and interest from Hastur to be first class. There’s also a box or three of free sounds, close to the door.

Sounds are a neglected part of builds in SL … the regularity with which one hears the standard freebie bird sounds around SL indicate that.   If you want to add a new dimension to your builds, think about sounds.
