Charity Date Auction
Second Life Relay For Life
Maybe you haven’t heard of Second Life Relay for Life? Fellow author Lestat wrote about the Volunteers in Second Life who hold events in an effort to help raise money for the American Cancer Society coinciding in a way to the real life American Cancer Society Relay for Life, which began in 1985 in Tacoma, Washington when a colorectal surgeon ran around a track for 24 hours and raised $27,000 dollars. From such a humble start Relay for Life is now held in more than 4,600 communities in the United States and in 23 countries around the Globe.
Second Life Relay For Life has a track set up to run on, but because Second Life is Second Life many more events are held to help raise money. If you are on almost any sim in Second life you will probably see at least one of the big blue Kisoks set up to receive donations.
Some of the residents are putting on special events just to raise money for the American Cancer Society. One of those events will be held Friday March 2, and Saturday March 3, 2007. This Event is being ran by the Spirit Chasers team 1 captained by LadyKay Gable and team 2 captained by Alexis Aferdita and held at Kay’s Tiki Lounge. (SLURL)
The event will be a Date auction, where dates for dinner and dancing with a special Second Life man or woman will go to the high bidder, with all proceeds going to The Relay For Life.
Friday night, from 7 until 9 pm SLT, will be the night that most of the men will go up on the auction block, so ladies grab your bag full of lindens and go bid on your dream date… all for a good cause.
Saturday night, from 7 until 9 pm SLT, the ladies and the rest of the men will hit the auction block and a nice virtual dinner and night of dancing will be had by the highest bidders for the ladies and a few men that could not make it on Friday night.
The 2006 Second Life Relay For Life raised more than $40,000, and this year more events will be held and hopefully more money will be donated to The American Cancer Society. I hope to see all our readers there bidding on the specimen of your choice, helping to support such a worthy cause.
