City of Heroes Double XP weekend

I’ve been playing World of Warcraft for the first time this past week and one of the things I liked about it over Everquest is that it is faster leveling than Everquest, at least in the early levels. The really fun stuff in Everquest doesn’t happen until later levels and I had to play for what seemed like days and weeks to get to some of that. I don’t have the time for that type of gameplay in any RPG.

At the same time I can understand the balance of not wanting to make it too easy. By having double XP promotional periods like City of Heroes is doing (hat tip to MMO gaming) next weekend from Jan 26-28 is a good idea.

I’ve never played City of Heroes (COH) / City of Villains (COV) MMORPG before but it looks interesting and might check it out someday. Maybe during their promotional period. COH is an MMORPG based on superheroes and COV is based on supervillains.

I’ve played CoH a few years ago, when I was starting to quit EQ1. It’s very different from the traditional MMORPG set up. There is no loot drops, only socket type things to enhance your powers. No, armor, just costumes that you can tailor using the “cash” system they have. Which is influence gained from saving people or completing missions.

Although I like to play it from time to time using their promotion period of a free activation of canceled accounts, to do so; the game doesn’t hold my interest enough to keep playing it for a longer period than a month or two. It was too easy to do missions solo, and coming from a game that you had to have a group in made it boring for me after awhile. I’m not trying to knock CoH, I think the concept is a great idea and I think you should give it a try if you like MMORPGs.

WoW has more to it, and yes it’s extremely easy to level and solo in. Although I did notice they are putting more quests in Outland that require a group of 2 or more. I do think it’s a great game for a casual player but they still need to tweak the experience to slow it down some. There are level 68’s
four days after the expansion release. Of course they were probably playing 24/7 but still…
