A deal has been announced in the virtual worlds space involving Club Penguin this space aimed at children.

Venture Beat:

Club Penguin, a virtual world for kids, has been bought by the Walt Disney Company. The deal is valued at $700 million: $350 million in cash now, and another $350 million if performance targets are met through 2009.

Darius wrote a good Club Penguin review back in April, writing:

So was it fun? Definitely. Maybe I’m more of a child at heart, but the mini-games could probably get me for hours just like some people play those Flash games for hours on end.

Clearly Disney agreed with Darius. Maybe Disney is reading VTOR for acquisition tips (joking!)

Hat tip to Webb Alert’s inaugural episode a new weekday videoblog covering tech and gaming news which you can embed in your site using Castfire, which is in private beta testing. Example below:

This might be of interest to machinima creators.

Production values are looking good, as well as host (or is it hostess?) Morgan Webb herself, on this show. As an amateur videoblogger, I’d be interested in learning what equipment Morgan is using to produce the Webb Alert. Morgan is a pro in front of the camera, not an amateur in case you haven’t seen the X-Play show on G4. TechCrunch is already calling Webb Alert more interesting than Rocketboom. Ouch.
