I had heard the rumor that Dallas Horsefly was going to stop performing in Second Life, so I got on the IM and asked her if it was true. “noooooooo”, responded Dallas, “what I’m doing is giving up my REGULAR weekly shows for now.” When I asked her to elaborate she sent me a notecard with the following on it:

All Venue Owners/Managers:

Due to RL activities and time to work on my music, I will no longer be scheduling regular weekly shows. I will however, be available for special events, open mic’s, grand openings, parties, etc. I feel I need time to work on writing new songs as well as learn some new cover tunes to keep my shows fresh and keep my audience entertained and looking forward to my shows :) Please don’t hesitate to keep me in mind to fill in for another performer that may have to cancel at last moment. The changes will take effect after Tues. Feb. 20. Thank you all soooooo much for allowing me to perform on your stages and having faith in me to bring an audience to your venues. And I hope to play on your stage again soon!! :)

Respectfully,
Dallas Horsefly

I have to give Dallas credit for examining her future, as a popular entertainer in Second Life, and realizing that without constently bringing new material into her shows; they will become stale, and she would lose some of the popularity she now enjoys.

Dallas also assured me she would still be performing Second Life shows,

I’ll be playing just as much if not MORE now, but in all fairness to the venue owners… I just cant commit to a regular weekly show at this time. I HATE canceling at last notice… its not fair. I DO need to ‘freshen’ up my performances, and it is something I’d been thinking about a looooooooong time. If I’m going to be an SL performer…I feel I NEED to take some time for RL activities and time for new fresh ideas for my shows. I think it’ll be a good move on my part… ya’ll are gonna start hearing some new material… new things during my show… etc… of course I’ll always have my leopard panties!! lmao You’ll LOVE it… trust me ;-)
One of the reasons Dallas is having trouble committing to regular shows is she needs more time to prepare for her real life trail ride. An Annual event where she guides a 100 or so women on a week long trail ride/camp out. Her website www.feistycowgirl.com was having server problems when I tried to reach it while writing this article, but if you reach it and click on the trail rides button there are many pictures of almost everything she has to go through to set up and get ready to take out this “estrogen override!” group.

Dallas maybe making time for her real life and beefing up her performances, but she is not going to stop performing… Just trying to take time for making a way to better performances.

This is exactly why I am trying to get away from regular weekly shows myself. There are millions of people in SL, I find it a better idea to spread yourself out some more instead of playing for the same 40 faces every week. I have cancelled my Wednesday Old Salt’s shows at the end of the month for this reason. Even shows where I brought in some new material were starting to feel stale. Playing 3-4 shows a week at different venues seems like it would be more fun than the same few venues every week, more people will be exposed to my stuff, and there will be more variety in scenery and faces. Cheers to Dallas for clearing everything up, and hope she has the best of luck with all endeavours.

I would like to add a little something to this article.. I hope this clears up any rumors that I am quitting my performances in SL. When I say I am TEMPORARILY not booking any REGULAR weekly shows…..it does NOT mean I will not be playing during the week, it simply means you wont see me EVERY Sunday at Crazy Sharks, EVERY Tues. at Sterling Vineyards, EVERY Thurs. at Pannies and EVERY Friday at Old Salts Pub. Hopefully I will continue to play at all these venues, it just wont be a regular weekly show. There are several new venues in SL that I have not had oppertunity to perform at, and I feel this decision will allow me time to do so. And yes, it will also give me the time needed to work on new, fresh ways of entertaining, along with time needed to do my ‘COWGIRL CHORES’ and ‘BARN GODDESS’ duties. If you would like to know where I’ll be playing, either check the events calendar, or join my group, Dallas Horsefly fans, THE BACKYARD group, or Perfect Bliss music group. If you would like to join either group, simply IM me and I will be HAPPY to send you an invite to join. I want to thank all my loyal listeners for always being there for me……YER THE BEST!!!

There is a constant evolution in SL music and Dallas is great at initiating some of the changes. The reasoning is a recognition or how to best be a part of music here. And I think it will (or should) be taken as a sign of recognition to venue owners as well. There are so many new places to play and soo many ways to do things. And its always been a chore to always have good performers every night. And I think it is the time consumption that sways venue owners to set a schedule that will just stay the same so they can dedicate their time to just running the place! But what about hiring musicians for a three day gig? What about changing the format of the shows to add variety. What about having free slots to schedule some of the new players ? (and there are LOTS of them) Or what about being able to manage the time so that scheduling shows is an ongoing and constant pasttime ? SL music evolves and to be stagnant is to be left behind. I assure you that Dallas will not stay stagnant. Which is why she will always have and keep a following here. Hats off to ya Dallas!

I too am feeling the strain of weekly performances. I expect that next month I will cut back as well on the regularly scheduled events in favor of exploring new venues. I’m being asked to do more shows than I can manage now. RL gigs also take priority and I will be sheduling those more often as the warm weather comes. Thanks Dallas for taking the lead on this one. I expect I’ll just have to check the music events more often to see where you are playing…..:=) Capos
