Early poll results at Web 2.0 friendly site finger Virtual Worlds as “biggest bubble”
One of the bigger blogs covering the Web 2.0 scene, Mashable, offers the following poll question: Which Area of Web 2.0 is the Biggest Bubble? The choices are: Widgets and Facebook apps, Virtual worlds, Social networks and None, let the good times roll!

Before seeing the results, I chose Social Networks, the third least chosen choice. My reasoning for choosing social networks is seeing too many sites adding social networking functions. Not every site needs social networking. It’s one thing to add community building features, another to create yet another social network.
Top choice for the poll was already given away by the title and screenshot pictured above: Virtual Worlds.
While I’d be among the first to concede a poll with not even 600 respondents is hardly authoritative, it’s still coming from a niche blog. Results from an audience presumably more receptive to widgets, Facebook applications, social networks and virtual worlds, is down on all of them. The least number of votes went to “none, let the good times roll!”
If there is a bubble pending in the tech space, do you think virtual worlds will be to blame or one of the other three choices? Something different to blame?
