First virtual credit card from Singapore based business
On the heels of the Ginko fiasco, timing to launch the first virtual world credit card might be a leap of faith, but that’s the plan for the Metacard. Two cards will be offered, a gold card with a L$10,000 limit and a basic card with a L$5,000 limit. WHOIS data for the firstmeta.com domain indicates the owner is from Singapore.

Duncan at TechCrunch muses:
Whilst Second Life companies such as the World Stock Exchange clearly state that they are in effect pretend outfits (ie: games), and therefore are not subject to real world laws, FirstMeta is actually providing credit that is tied to a real world account; in effect by securing their credit services they have crossed the line into the real world.
If none of this puts you off to applying for your own Metacard and using at your favorite shopping location, you might want to visit the Terms and conditions page (read the fine print) and then see if you actually know any of the shopping locations and merchants that support the Metacard.
The list of merchants is more than a few names but the biggest virtual store, slexchange.com is noticeably absent. The artist formerly known as SL Boutique, now Onrez, isn’t biting either. Without either of these two virtual store heavyweights in the ring, that hurts Metacard’s chances.
In my first life I canceled all credit cards 77 days ago. Although my virtual life isn’t conducting the same experiment, I think I’ll pass on this virtual plastic. You?
