Free Adel Hamad Project comes to SL
Well, OK I took it there and I hope lots of people are taking it there. I am indebted to boingboing for drawing my attention to the plight of Adel Hamad, held at Guantanamo Bay since 2003, who is no more a terrorist than I am, I believe.
I have watched the video, read his story, and have set up enormous posters to tell other people about project Hamad all over Nemesis. I have always thought that the idea of holding people without trial — even guilty ones — was repellent, but this poor man hasn’t done anything to warrant his detention at all.
I have wanted to act, and haven’t known how… it is easy to feel very small against the might of the most powerful nation in the world. But the injustice of this poor man incarcerated for no good reason, with no chance to clear his name or know what he is accused of, is something that demands action.
People in Second Life have a fine sense of justice, and I hope that they will join ProjectHamad and exhort others to join too. The detention of this man, who is a good man, and should not be in prison, shows that our governments are destroying freedom in their pursuit of terrorism.
Got to the website, watch the video, read what’s written, join and copy the poster. And fight for what’s right, peacefully.
