Game?
David Kirkpatrick, Fortune senior editor, ran a story on CNN Money.com reporting on why IBM’s Sam Palmisano and other tech leaders think Second Life could be a gold mine.
A very good read it turned out to be, at least to me. David starts out the article with last November’s meeting of IBM employees, and how Sam Palmisano (IBM CEO) logged into Second Life and controlled his own avatar. Palmisano announced that day a $10 million project to help build the “3-D Internet” exemplified by Second Life. Palmisano the article goes on to state “calls 3-D realms such as Second Life the ‘next phase of the Internet’s evolution’ with ‘the same level of impact’ as the first Web explosion.”
Kirkpatrick goes on to give an interesting description of the history of Second Life, explains briefly how real money works in Second Life, and tells how close the plug came to being pulled on Second Life during the early years. Highlights how some tech pundits think that “In two years I think Second Life will be huge, probably as large as the entire gaming community is today.”
Over all this 3 page article is very interesting and worth the time it takes to read. I recommend you read “Its not a Game“.
