The Hippo open source awards have just been announced at SLCC. The upcoming awards were announced in the Linden blog, and this year were judged by a happy band of Lindens. Next year the winners are invited to participate in the judging, and Liana Linden said that it was hoped that the community would also help to shape the categories and definitions for the awards.

Bear in mind that as they used unstreamed voice, I heard about as much as I would have done in a railway station if Rob Linden had been trying to shout the results from the ticket office to the signalling point… but this year’s categories and winners of awards are:
* Open Source contributor of the years Nicholaz Beresford
*Best Open Source Contribution: Alissa Sabre
* Best Open Source Feature: no one can tell me - and I asked and asked… it will be on the Linden blog when they post.  Able Whitman for the anti-payment spoofing feature, thanks Nicholaz!
* Best Open Source Bug Hunter: Giggs Taggart
* Best Open Source Community Organizer: Strife Onizuka

The winners get $300 US, land on Hippotropolis and a chance to judge next year. They are promised a logo badge whatsit to put on their websites too.

I was tempted to caption the picture “Rob began to wish he’d worn a better foundation garment as he bumped his way to the stage…” but then I lost my nerve.
