500+ free RPGsFrom John H. Kim at Darkshire comes the motherlode of lists for RPG fans: 500+ free RPGs. The list is a little glitchy with some dead links. A few of the games that stuck out at me on the list that are online interactive:

The Allerian Empire – “Aelyria features role playing and collaborative storytelling using a post-and-response prose-driven system over online message forums and bulletin boards.”
Cantr II – “a large number of players play an even larger number of characters who all together form different societies all over our virtual world. Societies exist in different languages, whereby all language groups play in the same virtual world.”
City of IF – choose your own adventures meet RPG.
Kingdom of Telegard – play-by-post fantasy adventure RPG.
The King of Spades – superheroes.
The LATTICE – freeform online sci-fi that has moderated join policy: “Entrance is judged on your imagination and writing skills.”
Lord of Lords – text-based RPG, over 159,000 accounts created to date.
Lyran Tal: “online story-gaming (interactive fiction) where writers and players create and play story games. An exciting aspect of storygames is that the whole tale is not written out in advance, and no one knows beforehand the twists and turns the story will take.”
MafiaRPG – play by post inside a forum.
Mysticora – play by email fantasy game with three subgames.
OpenRPG: “application that allows people to play Role Playing Games in real-time over the Internet. OpenRPG is free, open source, software, distributed under GNU/GPL license.”

This list should keep RPG fans busy for a long time.
