Click to see more posts by Darius SartreLinux viewer for Second Life… bugs again?

babytux.png Strange. Everything seemed perfectly stable lately…. when the client was on 1.18.3. Then with the latest shift to 1.18.4.3 and the First Look viewer with WindLight (1.18.5.73655), something broke again.

Why? The client seems to work fine for the first five to ten minutes. Then it’ll start to slow down and get pretty choppy. While I haven’t paid too much attention to the linux forums, I’m pretty sure that this is more of a memory leak type error than anything since it makes no sense why the viewer would start out working decently and then go into a spiral of CPU usage.

Anyone else seen this? As one of the five to ten percent of all Second Life players, it does create a somewhat of a hassle when it starts chunking.

hmm as far as I can tell 1.18.4.3 isn’t working all as well as it nearly should be. In fact after seeing it slow down, freeze, break down more randomly than a 20 year old porcelain doll on crack I have decided to downgrade 1.18.3.5

It’s exactly that reason I always keep a backup copy of the SLViewer and do some magic with symlinks and scripts In that case, switching is just a question of changing the symlink

That seems to be happening to me, too…very annoying. It takes the whole system down — next thing I know, I’m looking at my BIOS screen.
