Second Life near the Noob Sea?
Map of Online Communities: I wonder why the artist in the picture to the right chose to place Second Life near the Noob Sea? Especially considering that a common complaint from new people is that Second Life is anything but easy. You can buy the full poster from creator xkcd here.

Ready for an adult ID check on the already adult grid?
If not, be ready as this will incur a one time voluntary charge of somewhere between L$1-10 for premium members and “more” for adult. Daniel Linden provides more details (emphasis mine):

Adult content flags on the Mainland will be parcel-based, meaning that unverified accounts will be restricted only from the specific parcels containing adult material, not from Mature regions in general. ‘Adult Content’ is that which is overtly, graphically, or explicitly sexual in nature or intensely violent.

Being this is voluntary for both the parcel owners and residents I’m wondering what the consequences, if any, will be for parcel owners who do not mark their escort / pron areas as adult? Will this be a new promotion area for competing escort sites? E.g. escort site A advertises “no age checks” while escort site B requires them? While I think age verification is a good idea it’s riddled with holes, Batman.

(Sidenote: this age checking will do nothing to help prevent scams like this one where some degenerate was selling celebrity skins at L$2,500-3000 that were nothing more than empty boxes)

Are companies with business names using Second Life or Linden Lab being asked to change their names?
Metaversed 57 Miles claims he’s heard from two reliable sources that indeed that’s happening. If this rumor is true, what’s next? Sites using Second Life or Linden in their domain name? Doh! This is why we stayed away from using the name of any site in our domain. People might wonder what the heck VTOR Virtual TO Reality means, but there can be no denying it’s not trademarked.
