Marketing Research Classes in Second Life
Business Communicators of Second Life are holding classes on marketing research Thursday, February 8, 2007 at 10:00 am SLT and again Saturday, February 10, at 1:00 pm SLT. Pebbles Hannya of Market Truths will be the instructor sharing her experience on getting the most out of research efforts.
Description: Businesses have an opportunity to use Second Life to understand their customers and potential customers better, but following best practices with regard to ethics, privacy, and confidentiality is just as important when conducting (formal or informal) research in SL as it is in RL. In this session, some of the major principles underlying ethical codes and best practice guidelines will be explained. We’ll discuss how professional guidelines apply specifically to Second Life and the information collected in SL.
Market Truths is a real world marketing research company who established a Second Life presence early on, and has published two Second Life research studies, including the most recent on the fashion industry in Second Life. [quote from Business communicators of Second Life]
You may have read about the big uproar when Market Truths suggested that fashion producers raise their prices, bassed on only 105 participants of their survey. Should be an interesting class whether you are interested in having a research survey run, or just curious how such information is gained.
An interesting note: They are trying to take a poll on whether the class will be text chat, streaming audio, or Skype. Can you conference call more than five people on Skype now?

Skype have been beta testing Skypecast since the middle of last year - https://skypecasts.skype.com/skypecasts/home - works a treat - up to 100 can participate.

Thanks for the information DJ, Now Skype will be more useful in many different regards. I can now see a poor comedian able to get instant feedback from a Second Life audience. The one comedian I have seen try to do an act in Second Life suffered so from the lag time between trying to hit a punch line and getting text response it was a disaster.
