Morbid enough to design your own Coffin?
Thanks to Mark Wallace, I went by the Bogra office (opens SL) in Second Life to check on the contest they are having. Sure enough the Dutch funeral company Uitvaart and coffin-makerer Bogra have a plain wooden coffin you can pick up free in their office. One can then use it as a base and design your own coffin in a contest.
I also received a notecard which reads as follows:
International coffin design contest
Dutch funeral company Uitvaart.com and coffin producer Bogra.nl are organising a Second Life coffin design contest. Starting February 6th 2007 you can get your own (free) modifiable coffin from the vendor at the Bogra office at Tathlina (slurl: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Tathlina/240/201/51/). You then have until March 1st to design this coffin to your own personal taste reflecting your personality and character after which the completed coffin can be handed in to Gwendolyn Kronsage. (Make sure you rename your coffin to include your own name before handing it in to Gwen!)
Also send a notecard together with the coffin describing your design as we would like to know why you decorated the coffin the way you did and what materials you used. (To guarantee the feasibility of the Real Life production of the winning coffin, Uitvaart.Com and Bogra do stipulate that only biodegradable materials can be used in the design process)
All designed coffins will be photographed and the pictures will be displayed at the Bogra office during the month of March (starting March 5th). During this month Second Life residents can vote for the coffin that they think has been decorated in the most creative and personal way. At the end of March an international expert jury will chose the winning coffin that will be taken into Real Life production by Bogra Netherlands. This coffin will also be displayed at (international) funeral fairs as the first coffin that has been designed in an online community.
IM Gwendolyn Kronsage in-world or mail her at gwendolyn.kronsage@gmail.com if you have more questions about the design contest.
The very plain wooden coffin can be redesigned anyway you choose as long as biodegradable materials are used. Just wanted to be certain the regulars here at VTOReality know about the contest…. incase anyone is interested.
