I’ve been playing Entropia Universe (Formerly Project Entropia)for just over a year now. I did take a 9 month hiatus to check out Second Life, but thats a different story. I will post things of difference from my point of view after each post. I thought I would begin writing about my findings and adventures in this virtual universe.

Entropia Universe (EU) has a real cash economy and even has it’s own cash card tied to your game account that will work at any cash machine. More on the EU cash system later.

It’s free to play. All you need to do is sign up for an account. There are no membership fees, or monthly dues to be paid. You do have the option of making cash deposits into the game to improve your playing experience. More on that later.

So lets begin…

Download the client. Install it. It takes quite a while to install, I believe the file is over 1GB.

Create your avatar. I haven’t found a place or means to change the appearance of your avatar anywhere in world. Though I have seen advertisements for salons and the like so I’m thinking they do exist. So choose your looks wisely (Wish I could tweak mine up a bit). Your name remains unchangeable, aside that you can change how it appears to people (first middle last etc). My in game name is David James Lyons.

Then it starts with a narrative EU animated movie to explain a bit to you. Its been a while but I believe you are part of an endeavor searching for a planet suitable for colonization. For some reason I think I remember not landing but crashing to the planet Calypso. Some people crash in different places and begin their adventure at different places. The movie narrative explains that it is up to us to build the society on Calypso. I crashed in the city of Atlas Haven on the continent of Eudoria.
