After attending several Louis Volare’s concerts in Second Life, and finding full sims while trying to get to a couple other of his concerts; I decided I would need to purchase his new CD to help melt away the stresses I build up each day.

I went to Louis’s site, http://www.louislandon.com and navigated my way to his page which has all his CD’s found his latest CD “UNWIND” and was eventually directed to CDBaby.com where I could actually place the order for the “UNWIND” CD. I spent $12.95 + $2.25 Shipping and handling and soon recieved an email stating

Thanks for your order with CD Baby!
This is just a happy automated email to let you know a real person
will email you as soon as your package is sent, and you will also
receive a paper receipt with your order in the mail.

Sure enough the next day I received an email confirming that my oder had been shipped. I found this email so amusing it got me thinking about how important customer relations are for any web based business… I alway recognized how important it was for brick and mortar businesses, but have never enjoyed doing business quite so much as I did with CDBaby. I am going to share with you the email I received from CDBaby… well most of it anyway.

Thanks for your order with CD Baby!

I have no idea how you may feel about recieving this type of email in response to a purchase you make on the web, but even tody as I was reaching for “UNWIND” to help me relieve the stress that had built up on this day a smile came across my face. I think I will buy my next CD from CDBaby simply because they made me smile! I truly appreciate a smile on a bad day.

Yes Weirdharold, I do agree with you that CRM (customer relationship management) is important. I feel that it is a very crucial component for the success of any online businesses where the customers participation in any purchase transaction can feel so antiseptic. I find CDBaby’s light hearted humorous approach to be a rather unique and novel idea. Is it any wonder why CDBaby.com is the preferred distribution channel for Indie Artist. Thanks for sharing!

If you can’t appriciate a email like that, then you need to unwind. ;)

CDBaby have been sending the same emails for years. That’s not to say that they are not very cool! I really like ordering stuff from them, too - haven’t done so for a while, sadly :-(
