SpaceJunky Plays in SL on Nov. 30
If you’re a fan, you might know this Australian band has been touring Second Life since September to promote its new album Resident Alien. SpaceJunky’s next gig is 6pm SLT Nov. 30 in the sim The Outer Rim. It’ll be interesting to see how the concert works and how effective the series is in promoting the album, because it looks like it’s a model of good marketing in SL:
– The band has a stage, which others can rent, and a grubstake on one of the Millions of Us islands. (I presume MOU is helping the band with its SL presence).
– Its site includes a fan destination, SpaceJunky Mission Control, a building where fans can get branded gear and hang out, listen to or download tunes or buy the CD. I love the tented vendor outside the stage where you can get a free band T-shirt, just like you’d get at a RL show except you have to pay for your souvenirs.
– It has enlisted SL residents, including a tour photographer (my SL acquaintance Izzy Cole of Cole Photography), a publicist, and a staging and lighting firm. One of my biggest complaints is that RL marketers seldom do much to reach out to the SL establishment.
The band says attendance at its Sept. 29 concert capped its sim, so we’ll see if they do the same again. The concert includes what looks like a pretty spectacular light show. So, if you haven’t been to a live venue for music in SL yet, this looks like a good place to get initiated.
I just have one question: Why doesn’t the music stream work? Is it just me? But all I get when I stand there is deafening silence.
