Soup’s CD cover

I have had one of those serendipitous days when one thing leads to another. Some time ago, I watched the trailer for Peter Greenaway’s new film  which is currently in post-production (warning: adult content). I loved the music which was chosen to accompany the trailer - which looks amazing, incidentally - and so I did a search on the composer, Giovanni Sollima.

Through that search I discovered a two part piece on youtube, with an unusual film made by Lasse Gjertsen. I highly recommend both the film and the music.

Looking through Lasse Gjertsen’s selection of videos, I found one called amateur, which uses a very clever edit to make something quite wonderfully eccentric and funny and amazing. Nearly five million people have seen it, which indicates it’s worth seeing. In the responses to that piece I found this film, by a class mate of Lasse Gjertsen, made by a musician called Soup. I am hoping it won’t be the kiss of death for his career for me to tell people I love this music. I thought the response piece was clever, but I am playing one of his downloadable tracks over and over and over. I hope you like it too. With 10 million hits on hyperactive, another of Lasegg’s videos, I suppose it is just possible you all knew about these guys already. In which case… why didn’t you tell me?

Thank you so much for the discovery of Giovanni Sollima, Lasse Gjertsen, and Soup. It’s been a long time since I heard such a talented composer/musician as Sollima. I’m definitely keeping an eye out on him.
