Sword of the New World

After my positive beta to preorder to post launch experience with the Lord of the Rings, I’ve been keeping a closer eye on the new MMORPG aisles at the local retailers. On Sunday I saw a $10 Preorder offer for a new MMORPG Sword of the New World Granado Espado which garnered the 2006 Korea Game Award. For those who pay for the preorder (available at Best Buy) you’ll get $10,00 VIS (in game currency) when the game goes live.

Never heard of Sword of the New World? Neither had I, but the company behind the title K2 Network offers the following teaser:

Sword of the New World features three amazing video game firsts: 1) It is the only fantasy MMORPG that offers the ability to control up to three characters simultaneously; 2) It is the only game with such a unique, extensive multi-stance/multi-skill combat system; and 3) It is the only title to possess such powerful art direction inspired by this period in history.

Playing three characters at once sounds intriguing but I wonder if that will be cumbersome? I have problems controlling one character doing a lot of things at once sometimes in these type games.

Sword of the New World

To my surprise when I got to the site there was more of an application to a closed beta that isn’t yet available. So I paid $10 for … what? Nothing yet. After filling out the form I didn’t even get a confirmation email that the information was received. This blows.

Why have a boxed preorder at a retail store with absolutely nothing at the site to do? Cart before the horse? Perhaps I was spoiled by LOTRO and this is the norm?
