Only in a virtual world, could taking off hair and bling help you teleport successfully to another location. Think I’m joking? Check out Sunday’s Second Life error message from Claudia Linden:

remove HUD, hair and bling for better teleportation

I hesitated putting this under the ‘downtime’ category, but since they took the search places function down it’s somewhat applicable.

Gray prim hair anyone?
While writing this it occured to me that my avatar’s hair is somewhat unique. It has gray prim extensions. I wanted those so it made the avatar look more like my real hair.

TD Goodliffe and TD's real life hairIf you think my avatar looks older than the real me it’s worth noting the picture to the right is actually about 8 years old now. A more recent picture of the current state of gray hair is shown to the right which again when compared to the SL me appears a little more accurate.

My avatar was created by fellow VTOR author and friend Caliandris Pendragon. I think she did a good job, even if I do look a little bit like The Joker in the Batman movies. At one point in the design of my avatar, she had something that made me look a bit like Yul Brynner of Westworld fame. Not sure I ever got that version from her, but I liked that one. “Draw!”

As you can tell I’m not a very vain guy in Second Life or first life. I wasn’t all that creative with my avatar either, although I do have a few costume avatars I purchased to wear at some events like Pac-Man. I know some people spend significant amount of time making their Second Life avatars look good. Moral of the story: don’t take virtual fashion and hairstyle advice from me.
