chibi.jpg Beijing’s Perfect World (NASDAQ: PWRD), a company that specializes in MMORPGs (because we all know that Asian is just nuts about MMORPGs with micropayment right?), has announced that they’re going to be working on a historically correct Battle at the Red Cliffs. What’s interesting is the timeline where many games has taken from this time period but the most famous of names is Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Happens that John Woo is also participating on this project being that there will also be a movie with the same name coming out from the director. The movie itself is currently in the midst of filming with famous names as Tony Leung and Takeshi Kaneshiro.

beijingperfectworld.jpgFrom the looks of the official website, the concept art is incredible. This will definitely put it on my watch list of upcoming fascinating MMORPGs. Definitely another company to watch if you’re looking to track MMORPGs. Between these Chinese brands and Korean brands, they’re force to be reckoned with. Watch out Blizzard and TheNine.

Another observation, but this looks like it’s in conjunction with Sina. This means that there are a lot of partnerships and the lines are being drawn in sand for the Chinese gaming industry. TheNine has ElectronicArts as a shareholder as well as partnered with Blizzard Entertainment. Sina is a ginormous online media company in China that holds a lot of the cards when it comes to the gaming industry. Wonder who else will put their hands in the cookie jar before all this is over?
