Two free in-game LOTRO bonus items in June 2007 PC Gamer magazine

The five bonus days of Lord of the Rings Online after launch on the 24th are over and only players who have purchased the full or special edition LOTRO continue on. Here’s something cool I learned about in the chat of the game on Saturday. PC Gamer magazine the June 2007 edition (Issue 162, Vol. 14, #6) on newstands as of this writing is offering a promo code for two free in-game bonus items that can’t be acquired anywhere else in world:
The Fallen Star of Gil-Galad - increases power regeneration rate out of combat
War-Cloak of Isildur - increase to armor class and common damage mitigation
PC Gamer also has a 12 page strategy guide that is informative and useful plus contains the developers favorite areas and quests. If you can’t find the June issue at your local newsstand then try Borders, that’s where I bought ours. The price, $8.99 USD, seemed a bit steep for a magazine but it also comes with a CD-ROM with game demos.

I picked up my copy at my local Border’s. Lucky enough I found 1 of 2 that were left. Fortunately, the copy I found was just the magazine itself, without the CD packed with games and it was at $4.99. I thought that was a deal! So I rushed home to enter in my promo key and check out what the goodies were. Well, as a Founder and already having 2 other in-game goodies, I was a little disappointed in what I got. Let me clarify, that the 4 characters that I have are already at Levels 14+ and 2 of them have already came across cloaks that are better than the initial cloaks that the Founders received (the cloak in that you receive through the magazine has a slightly less armour value than the founder’s cloak). But, if you are new to the game and were did not participate the pre-sell offer and receive the Founder’s in-game items, this will be a good little bonus. However, since I have not come across any mob loot that I can stick in pocket, I did like that item. And like the Founder’s special items, these items apply to all the characters within your account. All in all, I’m somewhat satisfied with my purchase and goodies, I just wish the cloak was a little better. I guess the developers didn’t want it make it better than the Founder’s cloak, so it wouldn’t take away from those who decided to pre-order their game to reap the rewards that were offered.

[…] There are also some fun unknown quests to get titles like the pie-eating champion. For this title you need to get to the festival grounds in bree which can be seen on the map north of bree town. The contest can happen anytime in the day but never at night. I just waited at the table near Humbert Sandheaver until he started the contest. Then I just had to eat six pies before time ran out. There are couple of more deeds I didn’t know about mentioned in the PC gamer magazine TD posted about here. […]
