Virtual world Y! Widgets
At the end of last year Newsweek pondered if 2007 would be the year of the Widget:
If 2006 was all about social networks, user-generated content and YouTube, then it’s a fair bet that 2007 will be about further personalizing life online.
Microsoft launched Windows Vista at the end of January which allows their version of widgets, called Microsoft Gadgets, on the Vista desktop. Mac OS X Tiger have Dashboard Widgets. Google’s version of widgets is called Homepage Content.
Recently Yahoo released the newest version of Konfabulator called Y! Widgets 4 with versions that run on both Windows and Mac desktops. I searched through and found the following Virtual World related widgets:
- Second Life Status - indicates whether or not the SecondLife grid is up or down
- WoW Realm Status Monitor - keep track of the status of your favorite World of Warcraft server. Also see: Wow Realms, WoW Realm Status, WoW Realm Status US, WoW Realm Status Europe
- Second Life Exchange - search and display new products from slexchange.com plus shows a clock with SL (PDT) time
- SLQuery Search Mini - search SLQuery.com database from your desktop. Bigger version: SL Query
- WoW Break.com World Of Warcraft RSS News - latest news on World of Warcraft
- der-Leo’s WoW Search - easily search wow.allakhazam.com or www.thottbot.com. German users can search at www.blasc.de
- RSS.Kaneva - keep up with Kaneva news and development for MMO game building
