Creators all over SL have been contacted by disgruntled customers unable to rez the items they have bought. The “failure to rez” bug is the bane of buyers and sellers alike.
One of the creators who would like to remain nameless, has tracked down one aspect of the bug.  If you fail to rez a no-copy item for any reason, then that item will become a non-object.  When you relog it will have disappeared.

To test the theory I went to no-build land and tried to rez three objects out of six I was passed.  When I returned to my land, the three I had tried to rez on the no-build land failed to rez even when on buildable land, and they vanished on relog.  The other three, passed over to me at the same time, rezzed fine, although they were a bit slow to appear in my inventory on taking them back.

This seems to mean that if you fail to rez a no-copy item, for whatever reason, you can kiss goodbye to that object forever.  I’d advise you to keep any expensive or cherished no-copy items in your inventory for the time being.
