This is a joy beyond pleasurable joy. One of the original horror RPGs is finally back. Yes, back in the day on the Playstation, one of the best RPGs in the vein of Silent Hill was Parasite Eve.

This game was about the beginning of life but instead of Adam and Eve being the usual biblical creation story, Eve was actually the mitochondria in Adam lying dormant until the present to take over the world. What’s interesting is that it played off a vital part of biology but also integrates one of the largest religions in the world (the Japanese tend to really like mixing and matching with Christianity for science fiction).

Parasite Eve (the movie) came out over a decade ago and based on the book of which inspired the game series.

Just recently, it was announced that Aya would be back in The 3rd Birthday on the PSP. 3rd Birthday is the third game in the Parasite Eve series but being that it is a spin-off, it doesn’t hold the PE brand. Either way though, hopefully Square Enix is resurrecting this franchise to become the next Resident Evil series. It has been a long time awaiting for another PE, and one would have hoped it was developed more for the PS3, but beggars can’t be choosers. Especially when the last game was released eight years ago.
