Cabal Online
is a MMORPG that really brings some hack and slash and gun shooting along with magic to the MMO realm. Previously, this game has been pretty much Asia and Euro-based only. But no longer! Korean developer, ESTSoft, has released the North American open beta version of the client into the production wild and I have to say that I’m actually pretty tempted to take a look at this one.The fighting skills and abilities are really very much like a console series favorite from publisher Capcom.Oh yes, you know which one that is. It’s the guy in the red leather jacket and white hair. Rain Storm ring a bell? Oh yes. There definitely are some similarities to Devil May Cry.

If the music and the game play is as good as what I’ve seen in the couple of video sequences, then this will be sharing a bit of the limited free time that there is. Oh yes, it’s peaked interest enough to even break into that. In case you’re wondering, Cabal Online is a Windows based client and it is free.

Yes, that’s right. F-R-E-E as in beer. It’s another one of those microtransaction business models, that the guys at Blizzard scoffed at during GDC ‘08. But obviously it’s working for some developers. If it wasn’t, you wouldn’t have seen this surge of North American client play in the past year or so. In any case, we’ll see how this one turns out.
