Totally disappointed with Devil May Cry 4’s online play. Mainly because there isn’t any. The only network play is a leaderboard of which you get to compete against…. well, the Japanese. The top 10 players for every single mission has a Japanese flag next to it, and it’s interesting that there isn’t any regional boards.

Unfortunately, I would find that Devil May Cry 4 could be better with an online version of it if Capcom had thought to pit different characters like Nero or Dante against each other in a map. I believe that even a 2 on 2 would have been an interesting move or a co-op type play.

Either way, the current leaderboard reminds me of the new trophy system for the Playstation 3. While it’s interesting, it just doesn’t gather as much weight in the whole of things. Good thing the single player type play is still amazing and definitely reminiscent of Devil May Cry 3.

The boss battles are weighted well and the usual adventuring across a pretty open ended map is very similar although it’s not difficult to see the “linear” path to keep the storyline flowing. The lesser demons are actually very simply disposed of and we’re already a quarter of the way through the game without too much trouble. The music is the same death metal type of background music as the third one and that’s a definite welcome thing. I haven’t gotten to where you get to play as Dante yet, but it should be interesting since the movements and such are very similar between the two characters.

Either way, it’s one of the few games for PS3 that I’ve definitely been waiting for a long time to finally play.
