Funny thing. I was going over some of the more niche markets we were covering in the past. And in browsing, I found that Red Light Center was “Powered by Utherverse”. Wait a second.

Powered by? I thought RLC was actually different from Utherverse, so what’s the difference? Well, in accordance to Utherverse:

Utherverse is our social networking profile website. This is where you can create and customize your personal profile, upload pics, describe yourself, and search for other members you would like to meet. Red Light Center is an animated community where members can socialize with each other using “avatars”, and access the Utherverse profiling system by right clicking on other avatars. Your Utherverse login information will work to access Red Light Center and vise versa.

So perhaps at one point it was actually not all 3D animation for Utherverse and just the profile site? Still not really getting it. RLC is indeed the 3D chat, with avatars and all of it and requires you to pass a adult verification (credit card) and if you want to do the more “fun” things, you’ll have to shell out $20USD a month. So basically? It’s the horndog version of Second Life.

What’s somewhat interesting is that I see all this talk about how they advertise with Adultfriendfinder and other adult sites but you would think that this would be a great value-add for sites like AFF to have as far as a 3D avatar link-in to the more “adult world”. Definitely a direct tie of virtual and reality although somewhat of a less talked about side. Let’s be frank here: it is a social network for adult activities.

In the end, I think that there seems to be a multitude of issues running both brands without actually making them distinguished from one another. Having seen reviews where both are used interchangeably, I can see that other people are also having that issue. Perhaps it’s time for Utherverse to define what exactly the difference between RLC and itself is and help alleviate some of their brand slough.
