Neighbors who put no entry barriers around you
An update on how the new owner is using the virtual land around us. For awhile no activity, but today I logged in and see red no entry barriers around my land. Maybe the new owner reads VTOR?
As the picture above shows, there’s a few seemingly random prims scattered on the land, so the guess about it being excess prim space is probably correct. Wonder what the story is behind the fuschia-colored tree, though?
I see the red barriers as the real life equivalent of putting 8′ fences around a property. Makes sense if you have a house near a busy street, but not so much sense in a virtual world where others can fly above and go peeping tom on your property.
When we first established land a couple years ago I remember one of our VTOR group had a run-in with a neighbor. His response to something we did on our property was to put up these red no entry barriers around us. I talked to him about it and said hey, why didn’t you just IM me (the parcel owner) and tell me about your grievance.
Once we talked about it he took down the barriers. It was a tempest in a teapot situation and not even worth getting into here years later but I remain somewhat curious why the new owner of this land would put these barriers up over what appears like excess prim space land?
Maybe the new owner is worried I’m going to do something nefarious with 16m group plot and small amount of land that I kept as HazeLee suggested. In a word: no.
What do you think of virtual world barriers around your property?
Do or don’t care? Personally, I think it’s kind of fun to speculate about what your virtual neighbors are up to with their properties. In some ways virtual neighbors mirror real life neighbors.

Well I always leave my land open. I’ve noticed that during my puppeteers sleep, there are actually Av’s laying in my pool listening to my choice of music (as long as they do not pee in the pool it is cool…).
I ONLY close off my land when making love or during confidential talks.

Thank you for the update on the property I own in Monti – the red barrier lines are up because the land is set for group members to use as a sandbox and I don’t want a lot of trash from griefers on my land. My question is, “Why are you so concerned about the land after you sold it? Do you follow up on all land that you previously owned?”
I will continue to read WorldofSL blogs in order to keep up with happenings on my land.

HazeLee – so you own the property next to our group? Why didn’t you disclose that in your first comment? I never right clicked on the land and checked out who the owner was (doh!). It seems kind of strange that you wouldn’t say something though when you made your first comment.
Reading that comment makes it sound like you were just somebody random.
There hasn’t been a griefing problem on this parcel in a long time. We would certainly know. I maintain that the way you are behaving in comments here is exactly the type of paranoia that illustrates my point in the post.
It’s VIRTUAL land for pete’s sake. Lighten up

Wait wait…. she thought that VTOR would put up an ad farm? hahahahahahahahaha.
*wipes tear away*
Sorry, but from my perspective, it’s just laughable considering in the past, we wouldn’t even take advertising money from WoW gold advertisement which actually paid pretty well from what I remember.
I also find it amusing that TD gets the third degree on follow ups to current land neighbors but there’s a hypocritical statement that follows on HazeLee keeping up with the followings of her own purchases. Does it even matter if people write about your land?
Seriously amused.

I’m not fond of the barriers nor am I of prim walls around plots. I’m ok with strangers using my items or property whenever I am not home (unless they are unwanted- in which case they are probably banned).
As you said the concept of both barriers are psychological as I can cam into the property. I’ve found autoreturn and no object entry to be more useful than lines for griefer/stray prim management but that is just me.
