Sons of the Legendary Dark Knight
Amusing eh? You thought I was going to be talking about Batman didn’t you. But instead, I’m here to tell you about the reactions to Devil May Cry 4.
I finally beat the thing. Yes, it took me some time and I didn’t play it every night nor did I get it when it came out, but it’s one for the books. I beat it. And seeing how Nero, one of the sons of Sparda, was voiced by the same guy that does Ichigo Kurasaki in Bleach was all the more worthwhile. The voice acting was superb and both Dante and Nero were punks at multiple levels of age.
The game takes on a very similar taste as DMC3, but with some different ways to do things, and way better graphics. The music (unlike some of the other reviewers) was pretty darn good and different from your usual fight music. Call me weird, but I happen to think that industrial rock for fight music is pretty bad ass. Switching between two different styles of fighting on the other hand took a little bit to get used to especially when you beat a couple missions after work drawn out over two weeks. The way Dante and Nero fight are different and thus when the missions switched between the two characters, it was one of those moments that you go, “Oh wait, that’s how you do this.” It’s kind of like when you come back from vacation back in high school, and you practically had forgot your locker combination. That sort of familiar feeling.
I’ll have to say that I was sort of disappointed that there really wasn’t any more on the relationship between Nero and Dante. My first guess was that Virgel was Nero’s father due to the Yamato reaction but you really can’t be sure either way. This relationship in itself, will plague any person that has been following the story from day one since you just want to know. Outside of that, Sparda himself was a demon that lead the armies of darkness to conquer the world after passing through the Hellgate. But having a change of heart, he actually defeats the armies and changes after Mundus, the Prince of Darkness. Thus, he’s the Legendary Dark Knight, and Batman? Well…. doesn’t even stand a chance for that title.
This series ended with enough open that there’s definitely going to be another one. The problem with wondering is… where in the timeline will this happen? After DMC3? Before DMC1? What issue does Angus have besides OCD? The world will never know… [for now].
