Will DC Universe Online bring us a true comic book MMORPG?
City of Heroes is on the short list of MMORPG I haven’t tried yet but want to. With E3 last week and Comic-Con this week, the timing is perfect.
With news of Sony working with DC Comics for a future PS3 and PC game called DC Universe Online my curiosity is piqued even further. Who wouldn’t want to battle with Batman?
via USA Today:
DC Universe Online — a living, evolving virtual world being developed by DC Comics and Sony Online Entertainment (EverQuest) … You create your own superhero or villain to team up with or battle superheroes such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and The Flash, with tens of thousands of other players, in the 3-D world, being made for Sony’s PlayStation 3 and Windows PCs.
This sounds a lot like City of Heroes / Villains — only without the comic book character names — doesn’t it? I’m a little concerned about how successful Sony will be as they didn’t really make bank with the Star Wars universe (Star Wars Galaxies), but we’ll wait and see. IGN has a nice collection of early DC Universe Online screenshots.
At last year’s E3 Sony announced there would be several exclusive PS3 MMORPG coming via NCsoft who makes Dity of Hereos / Villains, but haven’t seen anything new on this front since. Is this deal still on?
