xtrap.jpg Annoying. I’ve gone back restore points twice just to see if it was actually Vista’s 64bit SP1 and indeed there’s some fun things going on.

Basically, some background. Vista SP1 was released a little over a week ago. You’d think that there shouldn’t be any issues with the install right? Wrong. For two of the games that depend on X-Trap to run (currently Cabal and Sword of the New World), both could not execute due to the fact that X-Trap detected that the operating system had “changed”. No kidding it changed. I updated it with security fixes!

Apparently I’m not the only one that has had issues with X-Trap either. For SoTN, there’s a technical support posting dedicated strictly to X-Trap. Another game called Knights Online is also dependent on X-Trap. In fact, from what I can tell, pretty much every single Korean game developer has some in-roads with WiseLogic, the guys behind X-Trap.

And it’s plain icky. Since you’d think they’d already have Vista patches in place since the betas have been out for a while for strictly this purpose. Why? Why?? Good thing SP1 currently isn’t running on that machine right now so the games are actually working but it really is somewhat an annoyance.
