Not quite true. DSi is actually a little larger (my old DS case can't fit my DSi) and DSi has support for downloadables, along with the SD card slot, re-arranged buttons, different volume controls. Overall, is it worth the $40? Well, from my perspective, the downloadable functionality should be and could be brought to the DS. But that's worth the extra money and part of the reason I upgraded.
